Father Donaghy and Father Gill drink and play cards late into the night. As they gamble with their duties, each turn of the card reveals their hidden sins and desires.

As Gill’s debts mount, Donaghy uncovers Gill’s past entanglement with the beguiling, and recently deceased, "Madam" Mary. We witness Gill’s forbidden attraction to Mary and Donaghy’s own cardinal liaison. Tensions rise as the cost of their relationships with Mary is unveiled.

In a final act of absolution—or power—Donaghy erases Gill’s debts, leaving both of them to confront their guilt, grief, and love.
